Embedded Software Engineer
An embedded software engineer is required to work on client assignments and provide key ideas for projects involving a wide variety of consumer, medical and industrial products, from concept definition through to architecture and detailed design. Work is often unpredictable, and projects frequently use cutting-edge technologies, so you must have a broad skill set. You will be able to contribute to a range of exciting projects in other ways that interest you, such as designing electronics, leading design teams and doing system design.
The division has a mixture of radio frequency engineers, analogue and digital electronics engineers, software engineers, physicists and mathematicians. Within this, the Semiconductor group focuses on products that require embedded software, digital hardware and low power operation. Current interest is on Smart Meters and Smart Appliances, helping consumers, businesses and countries meet their energy targets. Other recent projects include implantable medical silicon chips, holographic radar, and microprocessors targeted at the space industry.
To meet the requirements of this role you will have:
• An excellent first degree or PhD in engineering, computer science or related discipline
• Experience of embedded software implementation in C
• Strong mathematical skills
• Imaginative and inquisitive mind, eager to learn new skills and to develop solutions for interesting and complex problems
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:
• Writing programs in Python or C++
• Embedded Linux or Windows
• Writing protocol stacks or operating systems
• Digital ASIC or FPGA design and implementation using VHDL or Verilog
• Board-level circuit design
• Analogue electronics
• Information theory
• Signal processing or algorithm design
Graduates with industrial experience or recent graduates with relevant academic course or research experience are welcomed. They are looking for excellence, and are as much interested in your skills and ability to learn quickly as your experience.
