Test Engineer, Software/Firmware

To test lower and upper layer firmware associated with Radio devices for the purpose of achieving Bluetooth qualification. This will involve running and analysing automated test scripts using qualification software and hardware. Maintaining the qualification environment and upgrading where necessary. Monitoring the day-to-day running of such test results and reporting them to the Test Manager. Documentation of results and fault logging, tracking are also required, including possible validation of TTCN test cases. Other qualification work will be required from time to time.

Key Responsibilities
• Coordination of conformance testing effort, including liaising with multi-site development and conformance teams, test and test infrastructure development, customer support, equipment supplier liaison, and standards contribution

• Qualification and conformance testing of Bluetooth firmware, including Bluetooth zero-day qualification to newly-adopted Bluetooth Core specification releases

• Maintenance conformance testing to legacy Bluetooth specification releases

• Bluetooth Test and Interoperability Working Group participation and contribution

• Maintenance of company Bluetooth internal qualification test capability accreditation, including system verification and validation, and system upgrades as required.

• Investigates software defects and suggest root cause to development engineers;

• Delivery of high quality software test results in line with the department’s processes;

• Creation of relevant documentation following the department’s processes;
• Contribute towards the continuous development of the department’s processes;

• Conducts peer reviews of software test results;

Person Specification - Required
• Degree (or equivalent qualification) in maths/science/software/electronics
• Excellent proven experience of at least one scripting/programming language
• Excellent proven understanding of software test methodologies
• Proven experience of testing commercial software
• Good understanding of software test debug techniques
• Effective team player
• Good communicator
Good problem solving ability

Person Specification - Desired

• Experience of wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth, UWB or Wi-Fi
Competent with using laboratory equipment such as scopes, digital multimeters, etc
